Detailed 7-Day Rwanda Gorillas & Amboseli Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Rwanda

Your driver guide will meet you at the airport and give you a short briefing about the 7-day Rwanda Gorillas and Amboseli Safari. Depending on your arrival time, you will be transferred to your hotel in Kigali for rest and overnight stay.

Day 2: Kigali city tour and transfer to Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, visit some of Kigali’s main attractions including the Kimironko Market, Kigali Central Market, the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre, and local art galleries.

Later, drive to Volcanoes National Park, home to the rare mountain gorillas and golden monkeys. The journey takes about 3 to 4 hours with several scenic stopovers along the way. Arrive at your lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Golden monkey trekking and visit to Iby’iwachu Cultural Village

After breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a short briefing about golden monkey trekking. You will learn about their behavior, habitat, and trekking rules.

Begin the trek through the bamboo forest where you might also see vervet monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, and olive baboons. When you find the golden monkeys, spend an hour observing them as they play and move around the forest. Return to the lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon, visit the Iby’iwachu Cultural Village to learn about Rwandese traditions through music, dance, storytelling, and meeting local healers. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Gorilla trekking, transfer to Kigali, and flight to Nairobi

After breakfast, drive to the park headquarters for a briefing before the gorilla trekking adventure. Learn the trekking guidelines and then head into the forest to search for a habituated gorilla family.

Spend one hour with the gorillas, observing their behavior and taking photos. After trekking, return to the lodge for lunch, then drive to Kigali International Airport for your scheduled flight to Nairobi, Kenya. Upon arrival, meet your driver guide and transfer to your hotel for overnight stay.

Day 5: Nairobi to Amboseli and afternoon game drive

After breakfast, drive to Amboseli National Park, one of Kenya’s most beautiful parks, offering great views of Mount Kilimanjaro and large herds of elephants.

Arrive at your lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, go for a game drive to spot elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, cheetahs, leopards, and many bird species such as the Abyssinian ground hornbill. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6: Full-day game drives in the savannahs

Spend the whole day exploring the wide savannahs of Amboseli. You will have a chance to see zebras, lions, crocodiles, mongooses, dik-diks, lesser kudus, leopards, cheetahs, and many other animals. This will be a memorable day filled with exciting wildlife encounters and great photo opportunities.

Day 7: Visit the Maasai people, transfer back to Nairobi, and departure

After breakfast, visit a nearby Maasai village to learn about their way of life, traditions, and dances. Interact with the locals before starting your journey back to Nairobi. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to the airport for your departure flight, marking the end of your safari.
