Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is home to about 459 mountain gorillas, which is nearly half of the world’s remaining population. This makes it one of the best places to see these rare primates in their natural home. Lake Bunyonyi, meaning “the place of many little birds,” hosts over 200 bird species and has 29 islands, each with its own interesting history.

Detailed 4-Day Bwindi & Lake Bunyonyi Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

Your guide will meet you at your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe for a short briefing before the journey begins. Start the 447.8-kilometer drive to Lake Bunyonyi, stopping at the Equator crossing for photos and a simple water experiment.

Continue the journey and stop in Mbarara for lunch. Later, proceed to Lake Bunyonyi and check in at your lodge. Spend the evening relaxing and enjoying views of the calm lake waters. Have dinner and rest for the night.

Day 2: Boat trip and island visit, transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, head out for a boat trip on Lake Bunyonyi. This experience lets you enjoy the peaceful surroundings and spot many bird species such as the speckled mousebird, laughing dove, reed cormorant, and beautiful sunbird.

Visit some of the 29 islands on the lake, including Bushara and Akampene, which are known for their interesting stories. Take a short nature walk, meet local people, and learn about their way of life.

Return to the lodge for lunch, check out, and begin the 4-hour drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. On arrival, check in at your lodge and relax. Have dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi

Wake up early for breakfast, pack lunch, and go to the park offices for a briefing. The rangers will explain the rules of gorilla trekking and assign you a gorilla group to track. Begin the trek with a park guide and armed rangers through the thick forest until you find the gorillas.

Spend one hour observing them as they feed, play, and interact with each other. The trek can take between 2 to 6 hours depending on where the gorillas were last seen. Afterward, return to the park offices for debriefing and receive your trekking certificate.

Your driver will take you back to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. In the evening, enjoy dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Transfer to Kampala or Entebbe

After breakfast, check out and begin the journey back to Kampala. The drive covers about 501 kilometers and takes around 10 to 11 hours, with a stop in Mbarara for lunch.

Arrive in the evening and be dropped off at your hotel or Entebbe International Airport for your departure flight.
