Detailed 12-Day East Africa Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Entebbe to Murchison Falls National Park
Your driver will pick you up from your hotel in Entebbe to start your 12-day East African safari. Drive through the Luweero–Masindi route, stopping at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for a two-hour rhino tracking experience. Take photos, enjoy the moment, and continue to Masindi for lunch.
From Masindi, enter Murchison Falls National Park through Kichumbanyobo Gate. Stop at the top of the falls for photos, then proceed to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Game drive and boat cruise
After breakfast, go for a guided morning game drive in the northern section of Murchison Falls National Park. Look out for elephants, lions, buffaloes, giraffes, and antelopes.
After lunch, take a boat cruise along the Victoria Nile to the base of the falls. Enjoy sightings of hippos, crocodiles, and various water birds. The cruise lasts about two to three hours. Return to the lodge for dinner and rest.
Day 3: Drive to Kibale National Park
After breakfast, set off for Kibale National Park. The journey takes about 5 to 6 hours through Hoima and Fort Portal. Stop in Fort Portal for lunch and enjoy the beautiful countryside and crater lake views before arriving at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale
After an early breakfast, report to Kanyanchu Visitor Center for a briefing on chimpanzee trekking. The trek starts at 8:00 am, and you will have a chance to observe these primates for one hour once found.
In the afternoon, visit Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for a nature walk. Expect to see more primates, birds, and other small mammals. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Kibale Forest to Bwindi National Park
After breakfast, drive through the scenic crater lake region and pass through Queen Elizabeth National Park before continuing to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Stop for lunch on the way and arrive in the evening for check-in, dinner, and overnight stay.
Day 6: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Wake up early, have breakfast, and proceed to the park headquarters for a briefing about gorilla trekking. You will be assigned a gorilla family and a ranger guide. The trek may take 2 to 6 hours, depending on the gorillas’ location.
Once you find them, spend one hour observing and photographing them. In the afternoon, visit the Batwa community to learn about their culture and traditions. Return to your lodge for dinner and rest.
Day 7: Kihihi / Kisoro airstrip – Entebbe and Masai Mara
After breakfast, transfer to either Kihihi or Kisoro airstrip for a flight to Entebbe. From there, connect to your flight to Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya. On arrival, transfer to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 8: Explore Masai Mara
Spend a full day exploring Masai Mara National Reserve. Search for the Big Five and other wildlife such as gazelles, giraffes, topis, and cheetahs. Depending on the season, you may also witness the Great Migration between July and September. Have a picnic lunch in the park before returning to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 9: Transfer to Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, depart Masai Mara for Serengeti National Park via the Isebania border. Drive at a relaxed pace and enjoy the countryside views of Kenya and Tanzania. Arrive at your lodge in Serengeti in time for dinner and rest.
Day 10: Full-day game drive and Great Migration
After breakfast, go for morning and afternoon game drives in Serengeti National Park. Enjoy sightings of lions, elephants, zebras, wildebeests, and more. Depending on the time of year, you may witness part of the Great Migration. Have a picnic lunch in the park and return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 11: Safari in Ngorongoro
After breakfast, drive to Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Descend into the crater for game viewing. The crater is home to lions, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, and rhinos, along with many bird species. Have a picnic lunch and continue exploring before returning to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 12: Game drive and depart for Arusha
After breakfast, enjoy a short game drive as you exit Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Continue to Arusha, where your driver will drop you off for your departure flight.
