On arrival at Kigali International Airport, your driver guide will welcome you and give a short briefing about the tour. Depending on your arrival time, you may take an optional city tour to visit cultural museums, art centers, and genocide memorials.
Afterward, start your journey to Volcanoes National Park. The drive is about 2 to 3 hours through Rwanda’s countryside. Arrive at your lodge in the evening, check in, enjoy dinner, and rest for the night.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking and Iby’Iwacu cultural village tour
After breakfast, drive to the park headquarters for a pre-trekking briefing. The park rangers will explain the rules and guidelines to follow during the trek to ensure your safety and the gorillas’ protection. You will then be placed in a group of eight people and assigned a specific gorilla family to visit.
The trek through the forest can take several hours, depending on where the gorillas are located. With the help of your ranger guide, you will walk through thick vegetation and steep slopes, taking short breaks along the way. When you find the gorillas, spend one full hour observing them as they eat, play, and care for their young. Take pictures and enjoy this unforgettable experience. Return to your lodge for lunch and relaxation.
In the afternoon, visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village for a cultural experience. This visit gives you a chance to learn about the traditions, beliefs, and way of life of the local people. Take part in traditional music and dance performances and interact with community members. Return to your lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight stay.
