Detailed 10-Day Uganda Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and exploration of Mabamba Wetland

Your driver guide will welcome you on arrival at the airport and give you a short briefing about the safari. You will then drive to Lake Victoria for a boat ride to Mabamba Wetland, starting from Nakiwogo landing site. Explore the swamp and look for the famous shoebill stork hunting for food.

You may also see birds such as cormorants, African jacanas, papyrus gonoleks, and white-winged warblers. In the evening, return to the landing site and drive to your hotel for dinner and rest.

Day 2: Drive to Murchison Falls National Park via Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

After breakfast, drive to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary on your way to Murchison Falls National Park. Arrive at Ziwa before noon and start your guided rhino tracking. Walk through the sanctuary to see the southern white rhinos grazing. You may also see warthogs, Uganda kobs, zebras, and waterbucks.

After tracking, have lunch in Masindi and continue to Murchison Falls National Park. Arrive in the evening, check in at your lodge, have dinner, and rest.

Day 3: Game drive and boat cruise

After breakfast, go for a morning game drive in the park. Look out for the Big Four animals; lions, leopards, elephants, and buffaloes, as well as giraffes, oribis, hartebeests, warthogs, and waterbucks.

Visit the top of Murchison Falls to see the Nile squeezing through a narrow rock gap before dropping into a small pool below. Later, return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, enjoy a boat cruise on the Victoria Nile to see hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and buffaloes along the banks. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

After breakfast, drive to Kibale Forest National Park. Enjoy scenic views of the countryside and changing vegetation along the way. Stop for lunch on the way before arriving at your lodge in the evening. Check in, have dinner, and rest for the night.

Day 5: Chimpanzee trekking and Bigodi Wetland tour

After breakfast, head to the park offices for a short briefing before starting your chimpanzee trekking adventure. Walk through the forest with your guide to find a habituated chimpanzee group. Spend about an hour watching them feed, play, and interact before returning to the lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon, visit Bigodi Wetland with a local guide. Learn about its history and importance to the community. You may see primates such as vervet monkeys, baboons, black and white colobus monkeys, and mangabeys. There are also many birds like African jacanas, papyrus gonoleks, and fish eagles. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6: Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park and boat cruise

After breakfast, drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Arrive and check in at your lodge, then have lunch. In the afternoon, go for a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, which connects Lake Edward and Lake George. See hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and buffaloes along the shores.

Watch the sunset and return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7: Game drive and transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, go for a morning game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park. Look out for lions, leopards, hyenas, elephants, buffaloes, reedbucks, waterbucks, Uganda kobs, and warthogs.

After the game drive, start your journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Drive through the Kigezi hills and arrive in the evening. Check in at your lodge, have dinner, and rest.

Day 8: Gorilla trekking and Batwa community tour

After breakfast, head to the park offices for a briefing about gorilla trekking. The rangers will guide you on how to behave during the trek. You will be placed in a group of eight people and assigned a gorilla family.

Hike through the forest to find your gorilla group. Once you find them, spend an hour observing how they feed, groom, and care for their young. Take photos before returning to the starting point.

In the afternoon, visit the Batwa community. Learn about their history, how they once lived in the forest, and their survival skills such as hunting and fire making. Enjoy their traditional songs and dances before returning to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 9: Drive to Lake Mburo National Park and boat cruise

After breakfast, drive to Lake Mburo National Park. This is a shorter trip through the beautiful countryside known for Ankole long-horned cattle. Arrive in time for lunch at your lodge.

In the afternoon, go for a boat cruise on Lake Mburo. You will see hippos, crocodiles, buffaloes, waterbucks, and antelopes near the water. Enjoy views of the surrounding hills before returning to your lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 10: Walking safari and departure

After breakfast, meet your ranger guide for a walking safari in Lake Mburo National Park. This park has no lions or elephants, making it safe for walking. You will see zebras, buffaloes, giraffes, waterbucks, impalas, and warthogs at close range.

Enjoy the peaceful nature and birdlife before returning to your lodge for lunch. Later, drive back to Kampala or Entebbe International Airport for your departure, marking the end of your 10-day Uganda safari.
