Detailed 4-Day Bwindi & Lake Mburo Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Travel to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After meeting your driver guide at the airport, begin the long drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The guide will first give you a short briefing about the safari. Stop along the way for lunch and continue your journey through the beautiful countryside.

Arrive at your lodge in the evening, check in, have dinner, and rest for the night.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking and Batwa village visit

Wake up early for breakfast and drive to the park offices for a briefing. The head ranger will explain the rules and what to expect during the gorilla trek. Visitors are grouped into teams of eight, each assigned to a gorilla family and guided by rangers.

The trek can be challenging as you walk through steep and dense forest terrain, but the reward is worth it. Once you find the gorillas, spend one hour watching them feed, play, and interact with each other. Take photos as allowed by the park rules. After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon, visit the nearby Batwa community. The Batwa are traditional forest dwellers with a rich culture and history. Watch their traditional dances, see their way of dressing, and learn about their past life in the forest. Later in the evening, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Drive to Lake Mburo National Park and afternoon boat cruise

After breakfast, check out and drive to Lake Mburo National Park. The journey takes about four hours through scenic terraced hills and winding roads.

Arrive at your lodge in time for lunch and check in. In the afternoon, go for a boat cruise on Lake Mburo. This experience lets you see animals that come to the water’s edge to drink, such as zebras, buffaloes, impalas, warthogs, and waterbucks. You may also spot hippos and crocodiles in the water.

As the sun sets, enjoy the peaceful views before returning to your lodge for dinner and a good night’s rest.

Day 4: Game drive and departure

After breakfast, set out for a morning game drive across the plains of Lake Mburo National Park. This activity gives you a chance to see more wildlife up close, including giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, topis, impalas, waterbucks, warthogs, hyenas, and sometimes leopards.

Return to the lodge for lunch and check out. Begin your journey back to Kampala or Entebbe, arriving in the evening. You will be dropped off at the airport or your preferred destination, marking the end of your 4-day Bwindi and Lake Mburo National Park safari.
