Detailed 10-Day Uganda, Rwanda & Kenya Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Kigali

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, your guide will welcome you and brief you about your 10-day safari. You will then be transferred to your hotel in Kigali for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Transfer to Akagera National Park for game drive and boat cruise

After breakfast, check out of your hotel and drive for about 2 to 3 hours to Akagera National Park. Enter the park and start your morning game drive, spotting animals like lions, elephants, leopards, rhinos, buffaloes, zebras, and impalas. Continue to your lodge for lunch and rest.

In the afternoon, enjoy a boat cruise on Lake Ihema. Look out for hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of water birds. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Transfer from Akagera to Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, check out and drive to Volcanoes National Park, about 182 kilometers from Akagera. Stop for lunch along the way and enjoy the scenic views. Arrive in the afternoon and check into your lodge. Spend the evening relaxing before dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Golden monkey trekking and Iby’iwacu Cultural Village visit

After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a short briefing. You will then begin your golden monkey trek through the bamboo forest. Once you find them, spend one hour watching their playful behavior and take photos.

Return to your lodge for lunch and later visit the Iby’iwacu Cultural Village, also known as the Gorilla Guardians Village. Learn about Rwandese traditions, enjoy traditional dances, music, and a mock wedding performance. You can also explore traditional huts, learn about banana beer brewing, and buy handmade crafts as souvenirs. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Transfer to Bwindi National Park – Buhoma sector

After breakfast, check out and drive to Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The journey covers about 153 kilometers through beautiful countryside. Stop at the Cyanika border for immigration procedures and continue with an en-route lunch. Arrive in the evening, check into your lodge, have dinner, and rest.

Day 6: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi

Today is your gorilla trekking day. After an early breakfast, head to the park offices for a briefing. You will then enter the forest with your ranger guide to track one of the habituated gorilla families.

Once you find the gorillas, spend an hour with them observing their behavior and taking photos. Afterward, return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. Have dinner and rest as you prepare for your next flight to Kenya.

Day 7: Fly from Kihihi to Entebbe, onward flight to Masai Mara, evening game drive

After breakfast, check out and transfer to Kihihi Airstrip for your flight to Entebbe. On arrival, take another flight to Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya. Upon arrival, check into your lodge or tented camp and have lunch.

In the evening, go for a game drive in the Masai Mara plains. Look out for the Big Five and other wildlife such as hyenas, gazelles, and mongooses. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 8: Full-day game drive in Masai Mara

Have an early breakfast and pack your picnic lunch for a full-day game drive in the Masai Mara. Explore the open plains in search of lions, elephants, leopards, rhinos, buffaloes, cheetahs, hippos, zebras, and wildebeests.

Enjoy your lunch in the wild and continue your exploration before returning to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 9: Hot air balloon safari and Maasai Village visit

Start your day with a hot air balloon ride over the Masai Mara plains. Enjoy the panoramic views of wildlife below and take photos. The experience lasts about one hour and ends with a delicious bush breakfast, complete with champagne for those who wish.

Return to your lodge for some relaxation and lunch. In the afternoon, visit a traditional Maasai village to learn about their culture, lifestyle, and traditions. Enjoy their energetic dances, songs, and storytelling before returning to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 10: Transfer to Nairobi – End of safari

After breakfast, check out and drive back to Nairobi, about 230 kilometers from Masai Mara. Stop for lunch on the way before being dropped off at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your departure flight.

This marks the end of your 10-day Uganda, Rwanda, and Kenya safari.
