Detailed 7-Day Rwanda Gorillas & Tsavo Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Fly into Kigali, pick up, optional city tour

On arrival at Kigali International Airport, your tour guide will welcome you and transfer you to your hotel. Check in and relax in your room before enjoying lunch.

If time allows, you can take an optional city tour. Visit Kimironko Market to explore local foods and fruits and experience Rwanda’s vibrant city life. Return to the hotel in the evening for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Kigali to Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, drive to Volcanoes National Park, a journey of about two and a half hours. Upon arrival, check in at your lodge and relax while enjoying views of the surrounding forest.

Later, have lunch and take a hike to visit Dian Fossey’s grave. Learn about her conservation work and passion for mountain gorillas. Spend some time enjoying the peaceful surroundings before returning to the lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Gorilla tracking in Volcanoes National Park

After an early breakfast, attend a briefing by the park rangers about the gorilla tracking rules. Begin your trek through the bamboo forest in search of a gorilla family.

Once you find them, spend one special hour observing the gorillas as they feed, play, and interact in their natural habitat. Take photos and enjoy this rare experience. After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch and relaxation. Spend the afternoon resting or admiring the forest views from your lodge before dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Return to Kigali, fly to Nairobi

After breakfast, check out and drive back to Kigali International Airport, a journey of about two and a half hours. Catch your flight to Nairobi, Kenya.

On arrival, meet your guide and transfer to your hotel. Check in, have lunch, and spend the rest of the day relaxing as you enjoy views of Nairobi city. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 5: Nairobi to Tsavo East National Park

After breakfast, drive to Tsavo East National Park, which takes about five hours. Upon arrival, check in at your lodge and have lunch.

In the afternoon, visit Lugard Falls inside the park. Enjoy the views of the falls and take photos of the surrounding landscape. Return to your lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6: Full day in Tsavo East

After breakfast, go for a morning game drive through the park to see wildlife such as elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, leopards, and hippos.

Return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. In the afternoon, go for another game drive to explore more of Tsavo East and watch the animals move across the plains. Continue until sunset, then return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Return to Nairobi

After breakfast, check out and drive back to Nairobi, a journey of about five hours. On arrival, transfer to the airport for your departure flight, marking the end of your 7-day Rwanda and Kenya safari.
