Detailed 6-Day Uganda Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Drive from Kampala to Kibale Forest via Fort Portal

Your driver guide will pick you up from your hotel in Kampala and give you a short briefing about the trip. Start your 6-hour drive to Kibale National Park using the Mityana-Mubende-Fort Portal route. On the way, stop for photos at tea plantations and see locals harvesting tea leaves.

Have lunch in Fort Portal and then continue to your lodge. If time allows, visit Bigodi Wetland for a guided nature walk. After the walk, return to your lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast, go to Kanyanchu Visitor Center for a briefing about chimpanzee trekking. You will be assigned a ranger guide and a chimpanzee group to track. The trek usually starts around 8:00 a.m. and can take 2 to 5 hours, depending on where the chimps are located. Once you find them, spend one hour watching and taking photos before returning to meet your driver.

Have lunch at your lodge, then check out and drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park through Kasese. Stop at the Equator monument in Kikorongo for photos before continuing to your lodge in the park for dinner and rest.

Day 3: Morning game drive and afternoon boat cruise

After an early breakfast, go for a morning game drive in the Kasenyi Plains of Queen Elizabeth National Park. This area is known for its rich wildlife, including lions, leopards, buffaloes, elephants, hyenas, Uganda kobs, warthogs, and many birds. Return to your lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon, enjoy a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, which connects Lake Edward and Lake George. You will see hippos, crocodiles, elephants, buffaloes, and water birds along the banks. The boat ride lasts about 2 to 3 hours. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, check out and drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. On the way, enjoy a short game drive in the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park to look for the famous tree-climbing lions. The drive takes about 4 to 5 hours.

Arrive in Bwindi in the evening, check in at your lodge, and prepare for your gorilla trekking adventure the next day. Have dinner and rest.

Day 5: Gorilla trekking and transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

After an early breakfast, go to the park offices for a briefing about gorilla trekking. You will be assigned a ranger guide and a gorilla family to track. The trek begins at 8:00 a.m. and can take several hours depending on the location of the gorillas. Once you find them, spend one hour observing their behavior and taking photos.

After the trek, return to the starting point to receive your gorilla trekking certificate. Freshen up at your lodge and then drive to Lake Bunyonyi for relaxation. In the evening, enjoy a boat or canoe ride to one of the lake’s islands and watch the sunset. Return to your lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 6: Return to Kampala or Entebbe

After breakfast, start your drive back to Kampala or Entebbe. The journey takes about 7 to 8 hours. Stop at the Equator in Kayabwe for lunch, photos, and souvenir shopping. Continue your journey and arrive in the evening, marking the end of your 6-day Bwindi, Bunyonyi, Queen Elizabeth, and Kibale safari.
