Detailed 4-Day Bwindi & Kalinzu Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Upon arrival in Uganda through Entebbe International Airport, meet your driver guide for a short briefing about the tour. The briefing explains what to expect and how long it will take to reach your first destination.
Begin the 8 to 9-hour journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in the southwestern part of Uganda. Stop along the way for lunch and continue through the beautiful countryside. Arrive in the evening, check in at your lodge, have dinner, and rest.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking and Batwa village visit
Wake up to the morning songs of birds and enjoy breakfast before heading to the park offices for a briefing. The head ranger will explain the rules of gorilla trekking and what to expect during the activity. You will then be placed in a group of eight people, each assigned to a specific gorilla family with a lead ranger.
Start trekking through the thick forest with your ranger guide. The hike can be challenging due to the steep terrain, but the reward is incredible. Once you find the gorillas, spend one hour observing them as they feed, play, and care for their young. Take photos as allowed by the park rules. After the trek, return to the offices and drive back to your lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, visit the Batwa community near the park. The Batwa are known as forest keepers and have a fascinating culture. Learn about their past life in the forest, listen to stories from the elders, and watch traditional dances. You may also see how they make fire and practice hunting. Before returning to your lodge for dinner and rest, you can buy handmade crafts as souvenirs to support their community.
Day 3: Drive to Kalinzu Forest
After breakfast, check out and start the drive to Kalinzu Forest. The journey takes about six hours, passing through the scenic Kigezi highlands and terraced hills. Continue west to the lowland tropical forest of Kalinzu, home to playful chimpanzees.
Arrive in the evening and check in at your lodge. You may choose to relax or take an optional walk around the crater lakes, spot some birds, and interact with local communities. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Chimpanzee trekking in Kalinzu Forest and drive to Kampala or Entebbe
Start the day with an early breakfast and head to the park offices for a short briefing. The rangers will explain the trekking rules and group you with other visitors. Enter the forest with your guide and follow the sounds of chimpanzees as you track them through the trees.
Once you find them, spend one hour watching their movements and taking photos as they play, feed, and rest. After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch and check out. Begin your drive back to Kampala or Entebbe, arriving before evening. You will be dropped off at the airport or your preferred final destination.
This marks the end of your 4-day Bwindi and Kalinzu Forest tour.
