Detailed 3-Day Bwindi & Kalinzu Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer from Kampala to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Your driver guide will meet you at your hotel in Kampala for a short briefing about your 3-day Bwindi and Kalinzu Forest safari. You will then start the journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in southwestern Uganda, traveling through Masaka, Mbarara, and Kabale.

The scenic drive takes about 10 to 11 hours with a lunch stop in Mbarara. After lunch, continue the journey and arrive in Bwindi in the evening. Check in at your lodge, freshen up, have dinner, and rest for the night.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking and travel to Kalinzu Forest

Start your day with breakfast at the lodge. Pack your lunch and head to the park offices for a short briefing about gorilla trekking. The park rangers will explain the rules, safety tips, and gorilla behavior before leading you into the forest to search for a habituated gorilla family.

Once you find the gorillas, spend one full hour observing them as they feed, play, and interact. Take photos quietly as instructed by your guide. The trek usually takes between 2 to 6 hours, depending on where the gorillas were last seen. Along the way, you may also see other wildlife such as olive baboons, vervet monkeys, and several bird species.

After the trek, return to the starting point for debriefing and meet your driver. Begin your drive to Kalinzu Central Forest Reserve via Kabale and Mbarara, a distance of about 238 kilometers that takes 5 to 6 hours. On arrival, check in at your lodge, have dinner, and overnight stay.

Day 3: Chimpanzee trekking and return to Kampala

After breakfast, check out and head to the Kalinzu Forest offices for a briefing about chimpanzee trekking. The guide will then lead you into the forest to look for the habituated chimpanzee group. Once found, spend one hour observing them as they feed, groom each other, and play in the trees.

Take photos and enjoy the experience of watching these lively and social primates. The trek usually lasts 2 to 4 hours depending on where the chimps were last seen. Afterward, return to the starting point, meet your driver, and start the drive back to Kampala. Stop in Mbarara for lunch before continuing the journey.

Arrive in Kampala in the evening and be dropped off at your hotel or Entebbe International Airport for your departure flight.
