Detailed 4-Day Rwanda Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Kigali city to Volcanoes National Park

Meet your driver-guide, who will brief you about the safari. Then begin your journey to Volcanoes National Park, one of Africa’s most famous protected areas. It is located in the northwestern part of Rwanda and forms part of the Virunga massif. The drive takes about 3 to 4 hours and is full of scenic views along the way. On arrival, check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, head to the park offices for a briefing. During this session, you will learn about the trekking rules, how to hire porters, and how gorilla families are assigned. Your guide will then lead you into the forest for your first gorilla trekking adventure. Along the way, you may also spot golden monkeys and other forest animals.

When you find the gorilla family, spend one full hour observing their behavior; feeding, grooming, playing, or caring for their young. Take photos and short videos as allowed. The entire experience can last between 2 to 5 hours. After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch and relaxation.

Day 3: Second gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park

Just like the previous day, begin with breakfast and a briefing at the park offices. You will be reminded of the key rules, such as not feeding wild animals, not using flash photography, and keeping a safe distance.

This second trek allows you to visit a different gorilla family and notice how their behavior may differ from the first group. Spend another hour watching and learning about these gentle primates before heading back to the lodge. In the afternoon, you can choose to visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village for a cultural experience with the local community.

Day 4: Transfer to Kigali, city tour, and departure

After breakfast, drive back to Kigali for a short city tour. Visit sites such as the Kigali Genocide Memorial, local markets, art and craft centers, and other points of interest. Later, your driver will transfer you to Kigali International Airport for your departure flight.

This marks the end of your 4-day Rwanda double gorilla trekking tour.
