Detailed 3-Day Rwanda Gorillas & Bisoke Climbing Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Drive to Volcanoes National Park from Kigali
You will be picked up from your hotel in Kigali and transferred to Volcanoes National Park. The drive takes about 3 to 4 hours and offers scenic views of the countryside, terraced hills, and farmlands along the way. On arrival, check in at your booked lodge, relax, and enjoy dinner as you prepare for the next day’s adventure.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking day
Wake up early for breakfast and pack your lunch. Drive to the park headquarters for a briefing before your gorilla trek. During the briefing, the park rangers will explain the trekking rules, safety tips, and the importance of hiring porters. Your trekking group and gorilla family will then be assigned.
Start the trek with the help of an experienced ranger guide. As you walk through the forest, you may see birds, butterflies, and other primates. Once you find the gorilla family, spend one hour observing them as they feed, play, and move through the forest. Their behavior is fascinating and often resembles human activity. After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch and enjoy a relaxed evening.
Day 3: Hike Mount Bisoke and drive back to Kigali
After breakfast, return to the park offices in Kinigi for a briefing before starting your Mount Bisoke hike. Hire porters to help carry your backpack and meet your hiking group. The hike begins with the guidance of a ranger and takes you through bamboo forests, Hagenia woodlands, and alpine meadows. The round trip usually takes about 5 to 6 hours, including both ascent and descent.
At the summit, enjoy the beautiful views of the surrounding mountains; Karisimbi, Mikeno, and Nyiragongo, along with a crater lake at the top. After spending some time at the summit, descend to the base camp, sign out, and drive back to Kigali for your departure flight or overnight stay.
This marks the end of your 3-Day Rwanda Gorillas & Mount Bisoke Hike.
