Detailed 1-Day Rwanda Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Gorilla trekking from Kigali & Departure

Early in the morning, before sunrise, your driver guide will pick you up from your hotel in Kigali and drive north to Volcanoes National Park. The journey is about 104 kilometers and takes around 2 hours. On arrival, you will head to the park’s briefing center.

At the briefing point, park rangers will explain the rules and guidelines for gorilla trekking. You will then be assigned a gorilla family to visit, in a small group of eight people. After the briefing, the rangers and trackers will lead you into the forest to begin your trek.

The gorilla trekking experience usually takes between 4 to 5 hours, depending on where the gorillas are located. Once you find them, you will spend one full hour observing them as they feed, play, and interact with one another. You will also have time to take photos and enjoy this special moment.

After your time with the gorillas, return to the starting point to meet your driver. Enjoy your packed lunch before beginning the drive back to Kigali. You will arrive in the city later in the afternoon and be dropped off at your preferred location, marking the end of your 1-day Rwanda gorilla trek.
