Detailed 4-Day Bwindi & Mgahinga Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and travel to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

On arrival in Uganda through Entebbe International Airport, meet your driver and begin the 8 to 9-hour journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Stop for lunch along the way before continuing to your lodge. Arrive in the evening, check in, have dinner, and rest for the night.

Day 2: First gorilla trekking and drive to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

Start your day with breakfast and then drive to the Bwindi park offices for a briefing. Park rangers will explain the rules and group trekkers into teams of eight people. Begin your first gorilla trek through the forest with the help of your ranger and trackers. The trek usually takes between 5 and 6 hours, depending on the location of the gorillas.

Once you find them, spend one hour watching the gorillas as they feed, play, and move through the forest. After this memorable experience, return to the park offices and head to your lodge for lunch. Later in the afternoon, travel south to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Arrive by evening, check in at your lodge, have dinner, and rest.

Day 3: Second gorilla trekking and Batwa community visit

Wake up to a warm breakfast and prepare for your second gorilla trekking experience. Drive to the park offices for a briefing, where rangers will remind you about the trekking rules and safety measures. Begin the trek in groups of eight people to find another gorilla family.

The trek in Mgahinga is usually easier since the rangers already know where the gorillas were last seen. Once you locate them, spend one hour watching and studying their behavior as they feed, rest, and interact. After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon, visit the nearby Batwa community to learn about their way of life. The Batwa are some of the oldest forest-dwelling people in Africa. During the visit, they will demonstrate traditional skills like hunting and making fire, and share stories about their past life in the Garama Caves. Join them in their cultural songs and dances before returning to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Transfer to Kampala or Entebbe Airport

After breakfast, check out and start your journey back to Kampala or Entebbe. The drive takes several hours but offers beautiful views of the Virunga hills and the countryside. Stop for lunch along the way before continuing the trip.

Arrive in the evening and proceed to Entebbe International Airport for your departure flight or to your final destination, marking the end of your 4-day Bwindi and Mgahinga double gorilla trekking safari.
