Detailed 2-Day Kigali Bwindi Gorilla Trekking Itinerary

Day 1: Travel to Bwindi from Kigali and Batwa community tour

Your adventure begins at Kigali International Airport, where your driver guide will meet and brief you about the safari. You will then start the drive to Uganda, crossing through the Katuna border point before entering Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. On arrival, check in at your lodge and enjoy lunch.

In the afternoon, visit the nearby Batwa community for a cultural experience. The Batwa are the original forest people who once lived inside Bwindi before it became a national park. Learn about their traditions, customs, and beliefs with the help of a local guide. Listen to stories about their life in the forest and how they lived in harmony with nature.

The tour ends with an energetic traditional dance performance by the Batwa before you return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking and return to Kigali

After an early breakfast, head to the park offices for a short briefing before your gorilla trekking adventure. The rangers will explain the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking and how to behave when near the gorillas. You will then be grouped into teams of eight, and each team will be assigned a gorilla family to track.

Follow your ranger guide into the forest as you hike through the thick vegetation and steep paths in search of the gorillas. The moment you find them, all fatigue disappears as you watch these gentle giants go about their daily lives; feeding, playing, and caring for their young ones. You will spend one unforgettable hour with them before returning to the starting point for debriefing.

After the trek, meet your driver guide and return to your lodge for lunch. Later, check out and begin your drive back to Kigali through the Katuna border. You will arrive in the evening and be dropped off either at the airport for your departure flight or at your hotel in Kigali.

This marks the end of your 2-day Bwindi from Kigali gorilla safari.
